 Mirabai Chanu

 Childhood spent in deprivation

Chanu, who was able to lift heavy firewood with ease as a child, lifted a total of 202 kgs to become a medal winner in Tokyo today and her journey has been very inspiring.  Born in a simple family in the village of Nongpok Kakching, about 20 km from Imphal, Chanu was the youngest of six siblings but had a big dream.  Her elder brother tells that in her childhood she used to lift more weight of woods easily than all the elders.  While his father was an employee in the Public Works Department, his mother used to run a small shop in the village itself.  Over the years Chanu has made a name for himself in the Indian and international weightlifting world by overcoming all the difficulties and challenges.

 Archery weightlifting

Chanu had an eye on archery, says in one of her interviews that when she used to play football with her brothers, all her clothes used to get dirty.  They had to play a sport in which their clothes and body were clean.  Earlier he was inclined towards archery.  Following the passion, he chose weightlifting and started training from an early age.

There was talk of quitting the game

The period before the Rio Olympics has been the most important in his career.  During that time there came a time when due to the poor financial condition of her home it seemed that she would not be able to qualify for the Olympics.  His family members had also asked him to think about quitting weightlifting.  Luckily, he qualified for the Olympics (2016) under adverse conditions.  Even though she didn't play well there, her current World Championship win has propelled her to the Olympics (2020).

 Dream was broken in rio

Chanu came into the limelight at the age of 20 by winning a silver medal in the 2014 Commonwealth Games.  In the 2016 Rio Olympics, India was a strong contender for a medal, but she could not show her best performance, which she regretted.  From Rio onwards, he continued his impressive run and continued to win medals at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and also at the World Championships.  Although she was troubled by a shoulder injury in 2020, she went to the US to complete her training and kept the hopes of bringing India a medal in Tokyo.  With winning the medal today, Chanu has made her dream come true in Rio.  She has won an Olympic silver medal in the 49 kg women's category.  Congratulatory messages started pouring in on Twitter as soon as he won the medal, Prime Minister Modi also tweeted congratulations for India's first medal and Chanu's success.

 Conclusion:-

 Never Forever, Give Up..!!!
